Updating autostar controller
Here is a partial listing of the Autostar II database: I have a LX200GPS and I'm pretty sure the handbox I have with it is the 497, the one question that was already answered said it will not work with scopes that take the 497 autostar, but in another answer it says it works with all LX200's that are 2001 or newer, so will it work? I was told that the memory is on the motherboard of the 'scope and that this controller might not work because the memory is in the controller. The original Autostar (497) is for the ETX/LX80/LX90?The Austo Star-II is definitely the correct hand-controller for your LX200-GPS. EQ mounts that Meade makes and is not compatible with the RCX400.Star Patch uses your Windows PC to perform a one-time, quick and easy installation that reprograms the handset to accept raw GPS data. You can then connect the GPS to your telescope, turn the scope on, and watch as the handset displays incoming GPS data including time, number of satellites and signal strength as shown below. It will however, allow your Autostar to reset it’s BIOS back to a position where the handset can wait for new BIOS downloads.Use the following only if the handset BIOS is clearly damaged! The pre-GPS LX200s (often referred to as the LX200 classics) used an entirely different hand-controller, which looked nothing like the Autostar HC (ETXs, LX90s, and LXD55/LXD75 mounts) and the Auto Star-II HC (modern LX200s, LX600, and LX850s). The AUTOSTAR II controller has become finicky and unreliable. The old boxy hand controller for the pre-GPS LX200 is not compatible with any newer mounts. Hello Robert, If you're referring to the cable that connects the hand controller with the LX200 base for telescope control, it does indeed so there is nothing else that you need to buy to that end.
Equipment: LX200GPS w/Autostar II I tried to update the software version using ASU and the program just went away (closed itself) after about ten minutes. The ASU recognizes the scope (LX200GPS) and handbox version (09a0) but that's all.
The new Autostar II control system provided with LX200GPS-SMT models includes all of the features that made previous LX200 models the largest-selling serious telescopes in the world.
In addition, Autostar II includes an expanded 3.5 Megabyte memory, permitting a greatly enlarged database of more than 145,000 celestial objects, a database that is immediately accessible on the Autostar II display. The Meade Autostar II is used on the LX200/RCX400/LX600/LX850/and MAX mounts.
Our new 65-channel GPS-NX02 receiver works with the Astro-Physics GTO, Celestron Nex Star, Nex Star , Star Sense, Losmandy Gemini, Meade 497/497EP Autostar, Audiostar, LX200 Classic, Autostar II, Orion Atlas/Sirius Go To, Sky-Watcher Syn Scan and Vixen Star Books (see telescope models).
Imagine if your telescope could access the Global Positioning System so that it always knew when and where you were observing from.
